McDavid Knee Brace - Multiple Levels of Protection

A McDavid knee brace is one of the best athletic knee supports currently available for

purchase. McDavid USA manufactures sports equipment, including braces for nearly all parts of the body that can be used to prevent injuries or to recover from one. The company is known for their reliability and the durability of their products, thus, many medical professionals recommend them. Their knee braces are divided into four categories, numbered one to four, where Level one is the lowest level of support (primary) and level four is the highest (maximum).

McDavid Knee Brace

Knee braces are generally worn as a form of health care, to prevent injuries during sports, for example.

High impact activities or sports like hockey and skiing carry an increased risk of injury. They can also be used to provide support and compression after ligament or tissue injuries. Some are made of thermal materials to retain heat and promote healing. If you participate in a sport or have weak knees then you should consider using a knee brace to keep you as safe as possible while you play or exercise.

Which McDavid Knee Brace Should I Buy?

A level one brace is the McDavid Deluxe Knee Support, which costs roughly $20. This is an extra long neoprene brace that wraps around the leg and goes from above the knee to halfway down the calf. It has a frontal patch which increases heat retention. The nylon construction on the sides helps increase the product’s durability. In addition to applying pressure, it also protects against cuts and abrasions.

An example of a level two McDavid knee brace, which provides advanced support, is the Ligament Knee Support. This is an adjustable brace with two large Velcro straps and four elastic crossing straps. These straps apply pressure to the ligament and the thick neoprene sleeve compresses the soft tissue. The brace has four stays, two lateral ones and two medial ones, and a padded horseshoe buttress. This brace is more expensive and costs around $40. A less expensive level two brace is the Multi-Action Knee Strap, which costs around $25. It has two straps, over and under the patella, for optimum support. These are used to support the kneecap.

At level three, McDavid offers the PSII Hinged Knee. This brace is hinged and features hyperextension stops. This is a lightweight brace and retains therapeutic heat. This product is available for around $80.

The level four brace, M202 Protective Knee Guard, provides the most protection, and is used for sports like football. This is one of the most expensive braces as well, and it costs around $90. They do have a cheaper level four option called the M102 Protective Knee Guard, which has a polycarbonate single pin hinge that allows a wide range of movement. The neoprene cuffs and Velcro straps keep the brace from moving around while you wear it. This one costs around $75.

If you need knee support or if you would like to prevent injuries to your knees, then a knee brace is a good idea for you. With McDavid’s levels of protection, you will easily find the right McDavid knee brace for you.
